The Most Difficult Decision I Have Ever Made

To say that I am overwhelmed is an understatement!! I have now met with three different plastic surgeons to discuss reconstruction after mastectomy.

The general gist of the options are:

Doctor 1: Female. Pushing me to keep my nipples.

Doctor 2: Male. Willing to take my nipples off BUT can’t work with the breast surgeon I want to use due to different hospitals/networks and therefore, I would have to use a breast surgeon he works with.

Doctor 3: Male. Willing to take my nipples BUT will only do under the muscle implants (as opposed to over) which is a much rougher recovery/more involved surgery. But can work with the breast surgeon I want.

This is seriously the most difficult decision I have had to make yet in my 38 years. Obviously if I take my nipples off, my breasts won’t look that “normal” but it will lower my cancer chances even more than leaving them intact.

I need a crystal ball. Any major surgery (especially amputation of a body part) has risks and can lead to complications; I just wish I knew that whatever way I end up choosing, I will look somewhat normal in a shirt!

I don’t even know how to make this decision. I feel wayyyy too overwhelmed with choices and options. If you have any insight or anything to help me make this decision, send it my way!

Love and boobies,

Allison
